Bis(4-bromomethylphenyl)methane (BBMM) is a synthesized molecule that can be used as a substitute for uranyl in the synthesis of uranium complexes. The molecule has been synthesized by reacting 4-bromomethylphenol with methyltetrahydrofuran. BBMM is an acidic compound and has affinity for anions such as chloride, fluoride, and cyclophanes. It also exhibits constant molecular weight with a functionalised structure, which makes it suitable for use in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
