4-Bromo-2-fluorophenyl isocyanate is a potent inhibitor of fatty acid biosynthesis. It inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids by binding to the enzyme acyl carrier protein (ACP). 4-Bromo-2-fluorophenyl isocyanate has been shown to inhibit the production of cholesterol, phospholipids, and triglycerides in rats fed a high fat diet. This compound also has an inhibitory effect on the biosynthesis of lipoproteins. The enantiomers of 4-bromo-2-fluorophenyl isocyanate have been shown to have different effects on lipid metabolism, with one enantiomer inhibiting and the other having no effect on lipogenesis. The racemic mixture has been demonstrated to be more potent than either enantiomer alone.
