- 4-Bromo-7-(trifluoromethyl)quinoline
4-Bromo-7-trifluoromethylquinoline is a synthetic compound that has been shown to be an effective antimalarial drug. It is a plasmodium analogue of mefloquine, which is also used for the treatment of malaria. 4-Bromo-7-trifluoromethylquinoline is chemically related to phthalimide and binds to the hemozoin pigment in the parasite, blocking its production and leading to cell death. This compound was isolated from an Australian isolate of Plasmodium falciparum.
