Bis(4-Bromo-2,3,5,6-Tetrafluoro-phenyl)diazene is a crystalline solid that has been shown to be sensitive to changes in the environment. The sensor has a sensing range of 0.01 ppm and can detect various elements including heavy metals and viruses. It is also able to measure concentrations of toluene and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
A molecule of bis(4-bromo-2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-phenyl)diazene can undergo an isomerisation reaction with a concentration of 0.01 M HCl. This reaction leads to the formation of bis(4'-chloro-2',3',5',6'-tetrafluorophenyl)diazene as well as the release of hydrogen chloride gas.
