1,3-Bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)-4,5-dihydroimidazolium tetrafluoroborate is a halogenated heterocyclic compound that contains a carbene, phosphine and phosphinate group. This compound has been shown to be an excellent catalyst for the synthesis of ruthenium complexes as well as for the formation of other heterocycles. The carbene in this molecule is also responsible for its ability to react with alkyl and aryl groups.
