1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluoroantimonate is a ring-opening agent that is used for the immobilization of metal ions, such as palladium complexes. It is also an additive for catalytic reactions and has been shown to be useful in asymmetric synthesis and chemical reactions. 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluoroantimonate reacts with cycloalkanes and phosphonates to form fluorinated derivatives, which are then converted into fluorine compounds. This reagent can also be used in the activation of solutes and synthetic materials.
