Caulilexin C is a phytoalexin that has been isolated from the plant Canariense. It is a potent inhibitor of pro-inflammatory cytokines and has exhibited antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus. The chemical structure of caulilexin C was determined by NMR spectroscopy and found to have copper chloride as its active moiety. This compound can be used as an anti-inflammatory agent or to treat viral infections.
