1-Carboxycyclohexylamine is a trifluoroacetic acid prodrug that is metabolized to the active form, 1-carboxycyclohexylamine hydrochloride. It has been shown to have antimicrobial activity and also inhibits the growth of cervical cancer cells. The mechanism of action is not known but may be due to its ability to inhibit fatty acid synthesis as well as its ability to react with iodine. This drug has been shown in a model system to cause an increase in blood pressure, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme cyclic adenosine monophosphate phosphodiesterase.
