CGP 20712 is a low potency compound that belongs to the class of cyclase inhibitors. It is used in vitro to study the role of protein genes in metabolic disorders. Cyclase is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) into cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). CGP 20712 inhibits the production of cAMP, which leads to a decrease in energy metabolism and cardiac contractility. This drug has been shown to have a negative effect on cardiac function as well as structural analysis. CGP 20712 binds to DNA and modulates its activity by binding to 2-adrenergic receptors.
