- Phenol, 2-chloro-4-fluoro-5-nitro-
2-Chloro-4-fluoro-5-nitrophenol is a phenoxy carboxylic ester that inhibits the growth of bacteria. It has been shown to inhibit retroflexus, a type of bacteria found in soil and water. 2-Chloro-4-fluoro-5-nitrophenol was also effective against amaranthus, which is a weed that can infect cereal crops. This compound was not effective against other types of bacteria, such as E coli or Salmonella typhi. The target compounds for this herbicide are carboxylic esters, which are commonly found in plant cell walls and may be involved in the biosynthesis of carbohydrates.
