1-(2-Chloro-6-fluorobenzyl)-3-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-1H-pyrazole-4-carbaldehyde is a quinoline derivative that has been shown to be cytotoxic in human cancer cells. It is also an active metabolite of quinacrine, a medicament used for the treatment of cancer. Quinacrine is converted to 1-(2-Chloro-6-fluorobenzyl)-3-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-1H-pyrazole-4--carbaldehyde by esterases and other enzymes in the body. This compound inhibits protein synthesis and DNA synthesis in tumor cells by inhibiting the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase. It also binds to dna gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes that maintain the integrity of bacterial DNA.
