Covid-19 is a novel, non-antibiotic compound that has shown in vitro anticancer activity against human lung carcinoma cells. Covid-19 also shows minimal inhibitory concentration of 1.0 μg/mL against S. aureus and P. aeruginosa, which are two major types of bacteria that cause infections in humans. It inhibits the growth of these bacteria by alkylating their DNA and proteins in a similar way to the cancer drug cyclophosphamide. Covid-19 has been shown to have anti-cancer effects at doses as low as 0.1 μM and has no effect on healthy cells, including normal human lung cells, indicating that it may be suitable for use as an anticancer agent with minimal side effects.
