1-Chloro-2-(ethylsulfonyl)ethane is a chemical compound that reacts with light to produce reactive oxygen species. These compounds are used as analytical reagents and in the manufacture of other chemicals. The most common use for 1-chloro-2-(ethylsulfonyl)ethane is as an intermediate in the production of herbicides, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals. 1-Chloro-2-(ethylsulfonyl)ethane is also used as a photocatalyst for the oxidation of unsaturated alkyls, sulfoxides, and nitro groups. Oxidation products include sulfones, sulfoxides, and nitros. This chemical has been shown to be stable under different conditions including heat, acidity or alkalinity, pH changes, or light exposure.
