- Pyrimidine, 4-Chloro-6-Methyl-2-(Methylthio)-
4-Chloro-6-methyl-2-(methylthio)pyrimidine is an alkylating agent that is reactive with nucleophiles such as amino groups and reacts with the carbonyl group of acetoacetate. It can be hydrolyzed to ethyl acetoacetate, which has a number of uses, including as a precursor to polyesters. 4-Chloro-6-methyl-2-(methylthio)pyrimidine is also used as a precursor for the synthesis of 6-methyluracil. This compound is an alkyl halide and can form cyclocondensation reactions with aromatic aldehydes such as benzamidine to form substituted pyrimidines.
