5-(4-Chlorophenyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol belongs to the class of chemical inhibitors that inhibit transport. It is an endophytic fungus that colonizes plant tissues and alters their metabolism. This strain has been shown to be a model system for studying the biosynthesis of flavin cofactors in plants. The endophyte produces indole-3-pyruvic acid, which is an inhibitor of transport in plant explants. The chemical can also be used as a selective agent to identify fungal endophytes.
