2-Chloro-N-(2-cyanophenyl)acetamide is a quinazoline derivative that can be used as an anticancer agent. It was developed from benzenesulfinic acid and 2-chloroaniline, which have been found to have anticancer activity against leukemia cells. The 2-chloro group on the N-(2-cyanophenyl)acetamide molecule is an important factor in the anticancer activity of this compound. This group has been shown to bind to the anions, such as chloride ion or sulfate ion, in the vicinity of cancer cells and may inhibit cancer cell growth by altering the intracellular pH level.
