1-Cyclohexylpiperidin-4-one is a piperidine derivative that has been shown to be an acetylcholine receptor agonist. It is a lead compound for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and other cognitive disorders. The potency and selectivity of 1-cyclohexylpiperidin-4-one have been tested, with differences reported in the binding affinity of the analogues at muscarinic receptors. The selectivity of 1-cyclohexylpiperidin-4-one has been found to be higher than that of pyridostigmine, which is a standard drug used to treat Alzheimer's disease.
