Chloromethylcyclopropane is a toxic chemical that is used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical preparations. It is a reagent that can be used to produce carbon-carbon bonds by reacting with diethyl succinate, which creates the formation of chloromethylcyclopropane. The reaction solution can be purified using a solvent such as dichloromethane or chloroform and then reacted with chlorine atom, hydrogen chloride, and chloride to produce the desired products. Chloromethylcyclopropane reacts with nucleophilic attack to form an activated intermediate that leads to the addition of another molecule. This reaction releases nicotinic acetylcholine (NA) which is an important neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, and carbonyl group.
