2-Chloro-5-(chloromethyl)thiophene is a chemical compound that is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. It is also known to be a potent inhibitor of aromatase. Aromatase is the enzyme responsible for converting androgens into estrogens. 2-Chloro-5-(chloromethyl)thiophene has shown statistically significant antihistaminic effects in animals, although this effect was not observed in humans. 2-Chloro-5-(chloromethyl)thiophene has been shown to cause cancer in rats and mice, but not in dogs or rabbits. This compound is considered carcinogenic for animals and humans.
