7-Cyanooxindole is a compound that was synthesized to investigate the anticancer activity of indoles. It has shown potent anticancer activity in vitro and in vivo. 7-Cyanooxindole binds to DNA by forming hydrogen bonds with the bases, which inhibits DNA replication and transcription. The compound also interacts with the amino acid residues on proteins, inhibiting protein synthesis. In silico molecular docking experiments have shown that 7-cyanooxindole binds to HGC-27 with high affinity. HGC-27 is a protein that is overexpressed in many cancer cells and may be involved in tumorigenesis. This anti-cancer agent has been shown to bind to arylboronic acids, which are found on the surface of cancer cells, suggesting that it may target these cells through a passive mechanism.
