Trans-1,4-cyclohexanediol is a molecule that belongs to the group of diols. It is soluble in water and has a melting point of -87°C. Trans-1,4-cyclohexanediol can be found as an impurity in hydrogenated soybean oil and also has been used as an analytical reagent for determining the presence of fatty acids. This chemical has been shown to have synergic effects with other chemicals such as hydrochloric acid, which may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds. The x-ray crystal structures have been determined for trans-1,4-cyclohexanediol and cyclohexane ring in order to elucidate the reaction mechanism for this chemical. Trans-1,4-cyclohexanediol is used as a model compound for skin reactions, urine samples, and spermatozoa.
