The chemical compound 5-chloro-thiazole is a pyridazine derivative with an anomeric carbon that can exist in two different forms: α and β. The α form is the more stable of the two, which is why this compound is often used as a chiral building block to synthesize other compounds. 5-Chloro-thiazole has been shown to react with nitro groups to produce a nitro thiazole derivative. In other experiments, it was shown that 5-chlorothiazole reacts with anomeric hydroxyl groups and nitro groups to produce stereoselective products. These results were obtained from kinetic data and mechanistic studies on the interaction between these molecules.
