4-Chloro-2-(1-piperidino)-5-thiazolecarboxaldehyde is an atypical agent with antimycobacterial activity. It has been synthesized as a potential drug for tuberculosis and other mycobacterial infections. 4-Chloro-2-(1-piperidino)-5-thiazolecarboxaldehyde is cytotoxic to mycobacteria in the laboratory, which may be due to its ability to inhibit DNA synthesis and protein synthesis by binding to the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase.
