o-Cymene is a fatty acid that belongs to the group of terpenes. It is found in many plants and has been used as an antifungal agent in tissue culture. o-Cymene also has been shown to have postharvest activity index of 0.5% w/w, which means it is active against fungal decay during storage. This phytochemical has been shown to have an in vitro antifungal activity against various fungi through the inhibition of mitochondrial membrane potential, which can lead to cell death by apoptosis or necrosis. o-Cymene has also demonstrated fumigant properties and a solid catalyst for hydrogen fluoride production.
