(1R,3R)-Cyclobutane-1,3-diamine is an organic compound that has been used in the synthesis of polynitro compounds. It also has a number of other uses including use as a binder in propellants and explosives, as well as being a component of pyrotechnics. (1R,3R)-Cyclobutane-1,3-diamine can be synthesized by the reaction of an amine with 1,3-dichloroacetone. The functional group on this compound is a ketone. This molecule is soluble in chlorides and protonates them to form salts called chloramines. (1R,3R)-Cyclobutane-1,3-diamine reacts with isopropyl alcohol to produce acetonitrile.
