Clencyclohexerol hydrochloride is a β-agonist drug that has been used in the United States for many years to promote growth in pigs and cattle. It binds to the β2-adrenergic receptor, which causes the release of catecholamines from the adrenal medulla. This drug is not approved for use in food animals in Europe. Clencyclohexerol hydrochloride is not metabolized by humans and can be analyzed in human urine as an indirect marker of animal exposure.
