(R)-(+)-2-Chloropropionic acid is an activated carboxylic acid that is used as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) reagent. It has been shown to react with the hydroxide group of DNA and form a covalent bond, which prevents DNA replication. The use of (R)-(+)-2-chloropropionic acid has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cerebellar granule cells and proliferative activity in E. coli K-12 cells. This compound also inhibits the activity of DNA polymerase and RNA polymerase, with an IC50 value at 0.1 mM.
