Cisapride N-oxide is a prodrug of cisapride, which is used as an anti-ulcer drug and to stimulate gastric motility. It has been studied using a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method in the science of pharmacology. It is metabolized via hydrolysis by esterases to form cisapride and parabens, which are preservatives that inhibit microbial growth. Cisapride N-oxide is available in the US under the trade name Motilium, where it is marketed for use in adults with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
