2-Cyanoacetyl-N-methylpyrrole is a chemoselective agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria. It is used as an antibacterial in the treatment of urinary tract infections, skin infections, and dental infections. 2-Cyanoacetyl-N-methylpyrrole has been shown to be effective against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae. It also shows good activity against Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Acinetobacter baumannii. This drug has been shown to inhibit the production of histamine by blocking the H1 receptor in cells. 2-Cyanoacetyl-N-methylpyrrole has also been found to have antidiabetic properties and is being investigated for use in diabetes treatment.
