Cyclopentanone-2-carbonitrile is an enantiopure synthetic compound that is activated by hydrogen bonding to the electron rich carbonyl group. This compound can be synthesized from anthranilic acid and a Grignard reagent. The activation of the carbonyl group can also be achieved by alkylation or filtration. This synthetic precursor can be converted into adiponitrile or amide derivatives. Cyclopentanone-2-carbonitrile has chiral properties, but it cannot be used as a chiral building block in methodology due to its lack of stability.
