3-Chloro-4-pyridinecarbaldehyde is a boronic acid that can be used to synthesize polymeric and macrocyclic compounds. The 3-chloro group is attached to the ring by a methylene group, which makes it more reactive than other boronic acids. This compound has been shown to condense with amines and form rotaxanes or polymers. This compound has also been shown to undergo reversible reactions in solvents such as dichloromethane, acetonitrile, tetrahydrofuran, and dimethylformamide. 3-Chloro-4-pyridinecarbaldehyde has been found in serendipitous reactions of various boronic acids and alcohols.
