3-(Chloromethyl)benzoyl chloride is a reactive functional group that belongs to the family of malonic acid derivatives. It has been used in organic synthesis as an acetylating agent and as a polymerization initiator for cationic polymerizations. 3-(Chloromethyl)benzoyl chloride has been shown to have synergic effects with other functional groups, such as proton-reactive groups, benzyl groups, and ethoxycarbonyl groups. 3-(Chloromethyl)benzoyl chloride can also be used to induce hemolytic activity of acetylsalicylic acid and sodium carbonate, which are reactive compounds. The phase transition temperature of 3-(chloromethyl)benzoyl chloride is between -20°C and -5°C.
