3-Chlorotrifluoromethylbenzene is an industrial chemical that is used in the production of dyes, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals. It has been shown to be a versatile reagent for the synthesis of aryl chlorides from a variety of starting materials. 3-Chlorotrifluoromethylbenzene can be prepared by equilibrating diisopropylamine with protonated chloride in a reaction vessel under acidic conditions. The product is then isolated using selective solvents such as sodium carbonate and chloride or by distillation at reduced pressure. This chemical also has the ability to deaggregate aggregated proteins and is toxic to aquatic life at high concentrations.
