Cefetamet pivoxil hydrochloride is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the class of cephalosporin antibiotics and is used as a second-line drug in the treatment of respiratory tract infections. It is active against Gram-positive bacteria, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus, but not against Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli. Cefetamet pivoxil hydrochloride inhibits bacterial growth by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, which are located in the cell wall of bacteria. The reaction mechanism for this antibiotic follows the same pathway as other cephalosporins: it binds to penicillin-binding proteins, which are located in the cell wall of bacteria.
