(R)-(-)-1-Cyclohexylethylamine (CHEA) is an amine that has a linker. It is a primary amine that can form a base with a strong acid, such as hydrochloric acid. CHEA is used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and other organic compounds. It is synthesized from styrene and ammonia by heating at high temperatures. The synthesis of CHEA requires microwaves to activate the reaction. This chemical can be purified using high-performance liquid chromatography and then converted to the (-) form by reacting with trifluoroacetic acid in the presence of palladium complexes.
