Chloroformic acid N-octyl ester is a carbonyl compound that has the chemical formula CHClO. It is a colorless liquid with a sweet, pleasant odor and a high boiling point. Chloroformic acid N-octyl ester reacts with amines in an amide reaction to produce an amide and hydrogen chloride. The amide product is usually soluble in water and can be used as an intermediate in the production of other substances. Chloroformic acid N-octyl ester has been shown to inhibit methionine aminopeptidase (MetAP) activity in cancer cells, which may lead to tumor suppression by preventing the synthesis of proteins necessary for cancer cell growth.
Chloroformic acid N-octyl ester also inhibits inflammatory responses in human monocytes by inhibiting protein synthesis and has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial respiration at low concentrations, but not at high concentrations. This may be due
