3-Chloro-4-fluorophenol isothiocyanate is a nucleophilic reagent that reacts with electron-deficient molecules such as thiourea. The nucleophilic attack of the electron-deficient molecule by the electron transfer of 3-chloro-4-fluorophenol isothiocyanate leads to the formation of a covalent bond. The interaction between 3-chloro-4-fluorophenol isothiocyanate and thiourea was studied experimentally, and it was found that the frequency of this reaction depends on the distance between them. The atomic orbital of 3-chloro-4-fluorophenol isothiocyanate interacts with the molecular orbital of thiourea, forming a new molecular orbital which stabilizes the reactants.
