Cyclopropyldiphenylcarbinol is a sulfonic acid that is synthesized by reacting cyclopropylphenols with hydrogen chloride. The reaction vessel and the reactive are both acid complexes, which are formed by the reaction of an acid and a base. Cyclopropyldiphenylcarbinol can be used as a precursor to other chemicals, such as monomers or silylating agents. This compound has been shown to react with metal surfaces and form covalent bonds with silicon-containing functional groups. The hydroxyl group on the cyclopropyl ring reacts with chlorine to form a chlorinated product that can be used in the production of other chemicals, such as isobutene or nitro compounds.
