2,5-Dimethylphenylacetyl chloride is a chemical that belongs to the class of peroxides. It is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. This compound has been shown to interact with tissue amide groups and peroxy radicals formed from hydrogen peroxide. 2,5-Dimethylphenylacetyl chloride has been found to be effective when used in low concentrations for the introduction of methyl groups into polyethylene glycols. The product is a mixture of two isomeric forms due to dehydration reactions, which can be identified by their nmr spectra at different temperatures.
