2,3-Dimethylindole is a chemical compound that has been shown to react with trifluoroacetic acid to form 2,3-dimethylindole-1,4-dione. This reaction is a nucleophilic substitution of the hydrogen in a C-H bond. The phase transition temperature for 2,3-dimethylindole is -8 °C. It reacts with methyl ketones and forms a chemiluminescent reaction. When reacted with human serum, it can produce photophysical activity. 2,3-Dimethylindole has shown anti-inflammatory properties in animal studies. It also has nonpolar solvent properties and can be used as a molecule building block in organic synthesis reactions.
