(4S)-3,4-Dihydro-4-phenyl-3-[1-[[3-(trifluoromethoxy)phenyl]methyl]-4-piperidinyl]-2(1H)-quinazolinone (MKC-242) is a selective 5HT2C receptor agonist. It was designed to optimize the pharmacological profile of this drug by targeting the 5HT2C receptor. The 5HT2C receptor is abundant in the gut and has been implicated in the regulation of food intake and energy balance. MKC-242 has been shown to lower body weight in mice by reducing appetite, as well as increase satiety through modulation of gastrointestinal motility. This drug also stimulates anorectic pathways in the brain, specifically targeting the hypothalamus, which may be responsible for its anti-obesity effects. MKC-242 has also been shown to have a beneficial effect on urinary incontinence in female rats.
