Dimefluthrin is a pyrethroid insecticide that acts by interfering with the insect's nerve impulses. It binds to the protonated form of the enzyme cytochrome P450, which is located in the mitochondrial membrane and is involved in the production of acetylcholine. Dimefluthrin has been shown to be effective against many bacterial strains, including methicillin-resistant staphylococci and streptococci. Dimefluthrin has synergistic interactions with piperonyl butoxide, an agent that inhibits the breakdown of insecticides by enzymes present in insects. The effective dose for this drug is low energy and it can be synthesized using asymmetric synthesis.
