2-(difluoromethyl)-1H-benzimidazole is a synthetic molecule that inhibits the activity of the protein kinase PI3K. It has been shown to inhibit growth in a model system of tumour cells, as well as inhibiting the growth of cancer cells in culture. 2-(difluoromethyl)-1H-benzimidazole is a reactive molecule which can form covalent bonds with other molecules including DNA and proteins. This property makes it a potent inhibitor of PI3K, which is an enzyme that regulates cell growth and promotes tumor growth.
