1-Decyl-3-methylimidazol-3-ium;tetrafluoroborate (DMIM) is a new chemical species that can be used as a phase transfer catalyst. DMIM has been shown to have various interactions with other chemicals, such as binding constants, conformational properties and fluorescence measurements. It binds sodium citrate in the gas phase, which can be used for the removal of sodium ions from water. DMIM also has an effect on human serum at high concentrations and has been shown to have a linear relationship between concentration and absorbance in titration calorimetry experiments. DMIM has a phase transition temperature of about 158 degrees Celsius and is stable up to about 185 degrees Celsius.
