4,5-Diphenyl-1,3-thiazol-2-amine (DTZ) is a model system that has been used to study the effect of chemical modification on enzyme activities. DTZ can be synthesized by reacting benzene with nitroethane followed by methylation. The electron microscopic analysis of DTZ revealed the presence of phenyl groups and methoxy groups. DTZ has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on rat kidneys in an experimental model. In addition, DTZ showed carcinogenic effects in rats when administered at a dose of 1 g/kg body weight for 40 weeks. It also has toxic effects on rat liver microsomes and causes significant changes in animals such as Sprague-Dawley rats.
