2,6-Dichloroaniline is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of aromatic amines. It is used as an intermediate in the production of pharmaceutical drugs and dyes. 2,6-Dichloroaniline is produced by the reaction of hydrochloric acid with multi-walled carbon, then reacting with ammonia gas. The compound can be detected by its characteristic nmr spectrum, which contains a carbonyl group and chlorine atom. Biological treatment of 2,6-dichloroaniline has been shown to produce sulfonation products such as anilino and 2-hydroxyphenylacetic acid. Chlorides are also found in wastewater effluent from 2,6-dichloroaniline treatment plants.
