2,5-Dimethylphenyl) (phenyl) methanone is an acylation agent that is used in the chemical treatment of activated polymers. It is also used as a crosslinking agent for polymers and other organic materials. 2,5-Dimethylphenyl) (phenyl) methanone has been shown to be insensitive to uv irradiation and benzoylation. This compound has been shown to be a good catalyst for Friedel-Crafts acylation reactions. The Friedel-Crafts acylation reaction is a homogeneous catalytic process that involves the formation of an acetic acid ester from an alkyl halide and an aromatic or aliphatic carboxylic acid. 2,5-Dimethylphenyl) (phenyl) methanone can also be used as a chloride donor in Friedel-Crafts reactions when it is reacted with hydrogen chloride or butyryl chloride.
