This compound binds to the protein Jak2 and inhibits its kinase activity. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells in vitro and in vivo. 4,6-Dichloro-5-pyrimidinecarbaldehyde is metabolized by conjugation with glucuronic acid or methylation with S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) to form monomethylated derivatives that are excreted via urine or bile.
