Descrizione

1,3-Dihydroxy-9H-xanthen-9-one is a synthetic drug that inhibits the growth of cancer cells by inhibiting glucose uptake. It has been shown to inhibit cellular proliferation and induce apoptosis in cultured human cancer cells. The molecular modeling study of 1,3-dihydroxy-9H-xanthen-9-one reveals that this compound can form hydrogen bonds with the phosphate group on the surface of nucleic acid. This inhibition may be due to competitive binding with adenosine triphosphate (ATP) for the phosphate group, which would prevent ATP from being hydrolyzed to adenosine monophosphate (AMP). This would lead to decreased synthesis of DNA and RNA, which are vital for cell division.
