2,3-Dichloroacetophenone is a chiral compound that is used as a precursor to several other chemical compounds. It is an unsymmetrical molecule with two asymmetric carbons, one of which has two different substituents. The optical rotation of 2,3-dichloroacetophenone depends on the type of substituents present and ranges from -84° to +58°. 2,3-Dichloroacetophenone can be used to produce corynebacterium species that are resistant to penicillin antibiotics. This organic compound is known for its environmental toxicity and can be found in the environment in association with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).
